A white bookshelf with lots of old books.

The local history collection at Tuusula Library serves those interested in local history.

We acquire books for the collection that deal with Tuusula or the former Greater Tuusula, or that have been written by authors from Tuusula. The local history collection also includes some other materials, such as maps, newspaper clippings and small prints. The local history collection also includes some examples from the collections of libraries that have been closed down, such as the collections of the Tuusula municipal library and the Kellokoski hospital library.

Part of the local history collection is the Wendelin Collection, donated by the Martta Wendelin Society, which contains a comprehensive selection of books and magazines illustrated by Martta Wendelin.

Most of the local history collection is located in the main library’s book storage in the basement. The libraries in Jokela and Kellokoski have their own local collections. The local history collection materials cannot be borrowed, but they can be viewed in the library premises. Materials can be borrowed by museums or other institutions with the permission of the library director.

Most of the books in the local history collection have been catalogued and can be found using the Finna search engine. Small print runs have not been catalogued online, but you can ask about them at the library.
