The annual national vocational skills championships, known as the Taitaja event, will be held from 18 to 21 May 2026 at the Tuusula Sports Centre in Tuusula. The event is organised by the Central Uusimaa Education Consortium (Keuda).

Taitaja is an annual national skills competition that serves as a showcase for vocational education and training. In the competition, young people studying for a vocational qualification compete for national medals in categories based on vocational qualifications.

Students from vocational colleges across Finland are taking part in the national competition. The event will welcome 400 competitors, who will compete in 48 different skills categories.

Taitaja2026 is one of the biggest public events ever held in Central Uusimaa

Taitaja2026 is Finland’s largest vocational education event. It is also one of the largest public events ever held in Central Uusimaa.

A total of around 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the four-day event. If it goes ahead, Taitaja2026 will be the region’s largest public event since the 2020 Housing Fair.

Taitaja has around 400 partners, and 1,700 students are involved in the project.

The event is open to all residents of Central Uusimaa, with free admission. Anyone interested is welcome to come and find out what vocational education and training entails today, how people train for a career, and what vocational fields are available to study in Finland.

Parents – welcome to the village parents’ evening

A new feature of Taitaja2026 is the so-called parents’ evening. On Wednesday 20 May, Taitaja2026 will, exceptionally, be open until 6 pm.

– “Extended opening hours allow parents and family members to come and find out about the vocational training options on offer, perhaps even together with their children,” suggests Competition Manager Janne Jousiaho.

The parents’ evening also offers those planning a career change, as well as those who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment, the chance to see what opportunities vocational training has to offer.

– At Taitaja2026, there are light-hearted trial stations for each trade, allowing any visitor to test their own professional skills, explains Jousiaho.

The event’s supporting programme includes the offerings at the event square, the safety square where emergency services showcase their work, and the activities on offer at the ‘partnership tent’. Yle Summeri will also be there, featuring its familiar faces from the influencer community.

Taitaja2026 – a major vocational education and training event at the Tuusula Sports Centre – is open to everyone on Tuesday 19 May from 8am to 4pm, Wednesday 20 May from 10am to 6pm and Thursday 21 May from 8am to 12 noon.
