Klemetskog, council initiative

Councillor Alanko and several other councillors presented the following initiative:

Klemetskogs skola ceased operations in Ruotsinkylä last year. The school building offers excellent opportunities for a wide range of activities. It could be used as a leisure centre for local residents, a meeting place for older people and young people, or even as an emergency facility for early childhood education. Putting the school up for sale is a mistake; a use for the site must be developed. Near

the school is the Ruotsinkylä research forest, where the Finnish Forest Association has organised forest-themed lessons under the name Metsäkoulu Käpy – Skogsskolan Kotten. The lessons have been held outdoors. In the spring, the target group has been Tuusula’s 4th grade classes, for whom the lessons are part of the Agenda 2030 programme, and in the autumn, schoolchildren from neighbouring municipalities.

Earlier this year, Minnami Lamminpää contacted some of the councillors and suggested that Klemetskogs skola would be a good base for this activity, offering better opportunities for organising lessons in bad weather and also for eating. Instead of a 2.5-hour visit, the school could be attended for a whole day or even several days, similar to a camp school. This would provide an opportunity to develop the camp school idea so that Klemmar would have dedicated teachers who would take turns acting as school hosts for the group visiting the school at any given time. The duration of the camp school could be from a couple of days to a week. Teachers from the visiting school could accompany the group or remain at their own school performing other duties, depending on how the school wishes to organise things. The model would probably evolve over the years, and Tuusula would also receive income from groups of pupils from other municipalities visiting the camp school. Not many city schools are located near forests, nor are all schools in Tuusula.

The Finnish Forest Association has been contacted about this idea and is willing to cooperate in developing the activities. Klemetskogs skola should be removed from the list of schools for sale, and activities should be developed for the school. The school premises can be used for many different activities outside of camp school days and even at the same time. The village has a hunting club, KJF, which is also willing to contribute to camp school days.
