Curricula for art schools
The art school follows the curriculum for basic education in visual arts, either the extended or general syllabus.

In basic arts education, the aim of the studies is to encourage pupils to enjoy the arts as creators and experiencers and to inspire them to engage in the arts throughout their lives. The extensive curriculum also provides pupils with the skills needed for further studies in the arts.
The curriculum for children and young people, which covers a wide range of subjects, takes art school students on a visual jou ey in which age-appropriate teaching progresses purposefully from one level to the next in study modules:
Basic studies 1 Travel preparations: In the studies for 6-7-year-olds, pupils are introduced to the basics of visual expression and thinking by trying out a wide range of two- and three-dimensional techniques, tools and materials, as well as various possibilities for working with visual arts.
Basic studies 2 Art travellers on the move: In the studies for 8–10-year-olds, we continue to explore the basics of image creation and practise various visual expression and thinking skills for longer periods of time than before.
Basic studies 3 New perspectives: In studies for 11–12-year-olds, students lea to boldly combine what they have lea ed previously with new knowledge, with a special focus on the visual language of environments. The studies include an intensive Saturday course in digital art each academic year.
Basic studies 4 Milestones and milestones: The studies of 13- to 14-year-olds focus on topics and phenomena that arise from the students’ own interests. In their work, pupils use means of expression that are meaningful to them and constantly lea new things from them. The studies include live model drawing Saturdays and an art trip each school year.
Advanced studies Personal paths: In studies for 15–20-year-olds, students deepen their skills in visual expression and thinking in accordance with the goals they have set for themselves. The studies also include an advanced studies final project. The studies include a live model drawing Saturday and an art excursion each academic year.
The extensive curriculum has been drawn up on the basis of the National Board of Education’s guidelines for the extensive curriculum for basic education in the arts (2017) and was approved by the Tuusula Municipal Education and Culture Committee on 22 May 2018.
