Children at the Nummenharju daycare centre in Tuusula

You can apply for an early childhood education place in municipal early childhood education throughout the year, no later than four (4) months before the start of early childhood education. If the need for early childhood education is due to your employment or the start of your studies, apply for a place as soon as possible, but no later than two weeks before your child needs the place. If early childhood education begins immediately after the Christmas or summer holidays, the start date should allow sufficient time for familiarisation. When applying for shift care, both guardians must submit a certificate from their employer or educational institution confirming the need for evening or shift care.

Apply for a municipal early childhood education place via eDaisy’s online service, which requires strong authentication to log in.

The status of your early childhood education application will change to “Sent” once we have received it via the eDaisy service. You can make changes to your application until it has been processed. After this, changes can only be made through the early childhood education service guidance. You can cancel your application by contacting the service guidance. You will find the contact details for our service guidance at the bottom of the page.

The early childhood education place must be accepted or declined via the eDaisy service.

Places in private daycare centres are applied for directly from the private daycare centre. For more detailed information, please refer to the websites of the private daycare centres.

Reporting a need for services

The service requirement (weekly/monthly care time) is agreed with the daycare centre director in a service discussion before early childhood education begins. Guardians must notify the daycare centre director of any changes and submit a notification of change in hourly limits via eDaisy. The change will take effect at the beginning of the following month.

Early childhood education options

Preschool is provided by Tusby träsk Swedish school and supplementary early childhood education is provided by the daycare centre.

Who can apply?

Swedish-language early childhood education is for children whose mother tongue or home language is Swedish, bilingual children, or children whose knowledge of Swedish can be demonstrated, for example, through language immersion.

Language-rich early childhood education

Swedish-language-rich early childhood education is a gateway to functional language skills.

What is linguistic diversity?

The aim of language-rich early childhood education is to stimulate children’s interest in languages and foster a positive attitude towards them. In language-rich early childhood education, less than 25 per cent of activities are organised regularly and systematically in a language other than those specified in the Early Childhood Education Act. The aim is, among other things, to support language lea ing and children’s linguistic motivation and to diversify language choices. (Early childhood education plan guidelines 2018)

The language-rich group is characterised by lea ing songs, games, rhymes and everyday phrases in the other national language. One of the goals of the group is to foster curiosity and an open-minded attitude towards different languages. The hope is that children will develop the courage to express themselves, including in a foreign language. Children are introduced to and lea their second national language unconsciously, as part of their everyday lives. We encourage children to use Swedish, without forgetting the importance of their own mother tongue. In order to lea a foreign language, children should have as good a command of their mother tongue as possible, as it forms the basis for lea ing a foreign language. The aim is to build a Swedish-language school path for the child.

What and to whom?

In Tuusula, language-rich early childhood education is provided at the Tuusulanjärvi daycare centre for children whose home language is Finnish. After this, the children go on to Swedish-language pre-school and primary education at Tusby träsk svenska skolani.

Application

You can apply for language-enriched early childhood education by submitting an electronic application via eDaisy. Select Tuusulanjärvi Daycare Centre and write a note about language-enriched early childhood education in the additional information section.

Round-the-clock early childhood education

Round-the-clock early childhood education is intended for children who need regular shift care due to their parents’ full-time work or studies. Regular shift care refers to weekly early childhood education where the need for care falls outside the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Future childcare bookings for children must be entered into Daisy Family by 9 a.m. on the Tuesday of the previous week. Children should have an average of two days off per week or six days off per three-week period.

Parents are not entitled to shift care on their days off or holidays.

In round-the-clock early childhood education, pedagogical activities and pre-school education are organised in accordance with full-day pedagogy. When the need for round-the-clock early childhood education ends, children transfer to a group or unit that provides day-time early childhood education.

Round-the-clock early childhood education is provided at the Maininki daycare centre (Hyrylä) and the Notkopuisto daycare centre (Jokela).
