Satu-Minna Suorajärvi's Pasuuna artwork for Tykkimiehenraitti is completed as part of the Tuusula Regiment Park art programme
The unveiling ceremony for the Pasuuna artwork, which is open to everyone, will be held on Wednesday, 27 August at 4 p.m. The programme includes a speech, an interview with artist Satu-Minna Suorajärvi and a musical performance. The artwork is located on the newly completed Tykkimiehenraitti, near the main entrance to Rykmentinpuisto School.

Pasuuna, located in Tuusula’s Rykmentinpuisto Park, is a functional and site-specific sculpture inspired by sound waves. The waves repeated in the sculpture’s form merge and separate, creating a trumpet-like cluster. Suorajärvi’s idea for the trumpet came from Sibelius’ compositions, such as the Finlandia hymn, in which the powerful sound of the trumpet can be heard and felt. Sibelius’ home, Ainola, is located near the famous artists’ community and Rantatie road by Lake Tuusula.
The wave-like shape of the sculpture is created by mirror-polished steel plates. The pieces are joined together by cross-welding, giving the structure an airy, honeycomb-like appearance. The mirrored steel plates form a labyrinth of reflections, opening up new and exciting angles of view as the viewer moves around the sculpture. In her work, sculptor Satu-Minna Suorajärvi (born 1967) has made versatile use of new techniques and 3D modelling. In Pasuuna, the structures are intertwined with a spine-like flexibility, which is a natural way for Suorajärvi to create form, also due to her background as a doctor.
Seats are also attached to the steel parts of the sculpture, allowing viewers to rest while enjoying the artwork. The Tykkimiehenraitti light traffic route cuts through the residential area, providing access from the Hyrylä bus terminal to the newly completed Rykmentinpuisto School.
The work is part of the Rykmentinpuisto art programme.
In the Rykmentinpuisto art programme, funds collected from land sales are used to commission or purchase public artworks for the area. Satu-Minna Suorajärvi won the art competition for Tykkimiehenraitti, which was held in 2020. Construction in the area is still ongoing, and art acquisitions will be promoted in line with the art programme plans as construction progresses.
