The member municipalities of the Central Uusimaa Environment Centre invited applications for the post of Director of the Environment Centre between 2 and 23 April 2026. Twenty-three candidates submitted applications, of whom seven were invited for interview. Three candidates progressed to the character assessments and the second round of interviews. 

The interview panel unanimously recommends that Riikka Åberg be appointed to the post and that Miia Suurkuukka be appointed as the alternate. The Tuusula Municipal Executive Committee will decide on the appointment at its meeting on Monday 25 May 2026. 

Riikka Åberg has held various management positions in environmental health at the City of Helsinki since 2004. She currently heads a food safety unit comprising 48 staff members.  

The Central Uusimaa Environmental Centre is the joint environmental health and environmental protection authority for the cities of Järvenpää and Kerava and the municipalities of Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi and Tuusula. Tuusula acts as the lead municipality for the centre.
