Children’s Museum Festival at the Tuusulanjärvi Museums on 22 August
This traditional event day is packed with cheerful atmosphere and fun activities for families with children at the museums around Lake Tuusula on Saturday 22 August. Taking part are Ahola, Ainola, Halosenniemi, the Lotta Museum, Erkkola and Aleksis Kivi’s Memorial Cottage. Tuusula’s own mobile library, Kirre, will arrive at the Halosenniemi car park as usual. On the day of the event, admission to all the museums is free for children and the adults accompanying them. The museums are open from 10.00 to 17.00.

In Ahola, we’ll be travelling to the Island of Friendship at the concert by Henna and the Superheroes Trio at 10. The concert celebrates friendship and the wonders of nature! The concert lasts around 40 minutes. In the stable in Ahola’s courtyard, you can look after the ponies and take part in guided traditional games. At the museum, you can take part in an art workshop and a fish soup orienteering event organised in collaboration with Ainola.
Ainola also has a hobby horse track and rose-making workshops from 11.00 to 15.00. There are five hobby horses available to borrow, but you’re welcome to bring your own. You cannot enter the museum on a hobby horse. Guided tours for children at Ainola at 10.00, 12.00 and 13.00. You can also take part in the ‘Let’s Play with Colours’ workshop at 11.00 and 14.30. In this fun-filled workshop, we’ll explore how colours ‘play’ together! You can also try your hand at being an artist. Borrow an art bag from the museum ticket office and draw in the garden and the woods. Refreshing treats are on sale at Café Aulik all day long.
In Halosenniemi, you can visit the Halosten Artists’ Home Museum and the ‘Sacred Nature’ exhibition, which showcases artists’ interpretations of nature. You can also take part in the “Marvellous Bugs” workshop, where you’ll get to make imaginative, funny, cute or terrifying bugs together. There’ll be activities and a harvest in the Halosenniemi garden from 10 am to 1 pm. Refreshments and ice cream will be on sale at the Halosenniemi museum shop. At the Kirres mobile library in the Halosenniemi car park, you can explore the summer and autumn harvest through books. There are also insect-themed books on display. Plus, there’s a task you can complete to win a book as a prize.
The exhibitions at the Lotta Museum explore the history of the Lottas and the ways in which they helped others and took on responsibility. The playground features a hoop-jumping course, and visitors can also take part in nature-themed poetry activities led by Satutäti and Seed Art Studio. At the Swedish cottage, Satutäti Milla will be presenting her immersive traditional story ‘Picnic’, and Seed Art Studio will be running art workshops at 11.00 and 13.00. You can also solve Toivo the Spider’s cake riddle – and win a small prize. You can also pop into the museum café, Lottakanttiini, to enjoy a delicious lunch.
The exhibition ‘Literally Speaking – A Dialogue between Language and the Visual Arts’ at Erkkolan features artworks that explore how images and words can work together. Take part in the ‘Make Your Own Postcard!’ workshop and complete Postman Poni’s obstacle course. Once you’ve finished the course, you’ll receive a small prize. The Baking Ladies will be selling savoury and sweet festive treats throughout the event.
A poetry basket, filled with poems and rhymes, stands outside Aleksis Kivi’s Memorial Cottage. Come and write your words or a message, or draw a picture or even a comic strip on a strip of fabric, and hang it on the communal poetry basket.
If you’d like, you can bring your own hobby horse or other toy along to the children’s museum party.
