Tuusula Municipality is launching a preliminary impact assessment of decisions regarding the operations of Tuomala School 

In 2020, the local authority carried out a preliminary impact assessment of the Linjamäki, Nahkela and Tuomala schools. The assessment found that: 

“Tuomala School will continue to operate, provided the pupil numbers remain unchanged, until such time as a major refurbishment of the school becomes necessary. The pupil numbers should be at least 60. It is not appropriate for Tuusula Municipality to make a major investment for 60 pupils, as the Kirkonkylä campus, which will accommodate the pupils, is due to be completed nearby in 2023.” The Kirkonkylä campus is currently known as the Tuusulanjärvi School and Nursery. 

The number of pupils at Tuomala School has fallen. At the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, there will be 34 pupils at Tuomala School, a few of whom are being home-schooled. Seven of the pupils are from outside the local area. 

At its meeting on 24 August,2026, the Municipality Executive Board decided to launch a preliminary assessment of the impact of the decisions made regarding the operations of Tuomala School, to be discussed by the Municipal Executive Board in January 2027.  

A parents’ evening for the parents of current pupils at Tuomala School will be held on 16 September. The invitation has been sent via Wilma.  

A residents’ evening will be held on 17 September at 6.00 pm in the sports hall at Tuomala School.  

On 7–8 October, pupils from both Tuomala and Tuusulanjärvi schools will be heard. On 22 October, the parents’ associations of Tuomala and Tuusulanjärvi schools will be heard.  

Staff at Tuomala School were briefed on the situation and the timetable at a meeting on 20 August. 

The local authority will assess the impacts using the new operating model, which came into effect on 1 August 2026.
