Credit courses
If you wish, you can receive an assessment and certificate for certain separately specified courses at Tuusula Adult Education Centre.

Tuusula Adult Education Centre organises competence-based credit courses, the completion of which is recorded in the Koski database. These achievements can be used to demonstrate one’s competence and possibly also as part of other studies.
You can also participate in each course without seeking assessment and performance records in the Koski database.
The student’s consent is always required for the assessment of study modules based on competence-based criteria and for the recording of study modules in the Koski database. In such cases, the student’s performance must meet the assessment criteria for the study module.

Tuusula College’s comprehensive range of courses
Tuusulan Opisto is a community college operating in the municipality of Tuusula and part of the national education system for liberal adult education. The college aims to meet regional and local educational needs. This goal is pursued through a comprehensive and diverse range of courses in various fields of education in different parts of the operating area. The college offers day, evening and weekend courses. The proportion of distance lea ing and credit-bearing courses is growing.
The activities of Tuusula Adult Education Centre are gove ed by the Act on Free Education (21.8.1998/632), according to which adult education centres are educational institutions based on local and regional educational needs that offer opportunities for independent lea ing and the development of civic skills. The purpose of liberal adult education is to provide education that supports social cohesion, equality and active citizenship based on the principle of lifelong lea ing. The aim is also to promote people’s diverse development and well-being, as well as the realisation of democracy, pluralism, sustainable development, multiculturalism and inte ationalism. Liberal adult education emphasises independent lea ing, community spirit and participation.
Tuusula Adult Education Centre organises training in accordance with its operating licence, with the aim of supporting community spirit and interaction as well as people’s overall well-being. Teaching focuses on arts and crafts, languages, subjects that promote health and well-being, and social studies.
The content of the teaching is decided by the municipality of Tuusula, which maintains the educational institution.
Competence-based credit courses
Teaching at adult education centres has traditionally been free of specific objectives. Teaching is open to everyone, regardless of age or educational background. Students can largely set their own study objectives, for example, to develop skills, knowledge, social skills or civic skills. Open-ended, non-degree studies thus provide participants with a wide range of skills, and it is useful to facilitate and improve the recognition of these skills. In this case, it is possible to offer studies more clearly as part of a degree or as a demonstration of skills to an employer, for example.
The recognition and demonstration of competence in liberal adult education through competence-based Koski-eligible courses is primarily achieved by setting competence objectives and assessment criteria for these courses. Based on these, assessment practices are designed for the course and the student’s competence and the verification of competence criteria are reflected in them.
The assessment of study performance is always voluntary for students. In order for a student’s course performance to be recorded in the Koski database, they must give their consent for the data to be stored to the administrator of the educational institution.
Completed credit courses can be used to demonstrate your competence via the Koski database and possibly also as part of other studies. You can also participate in each course without seeking assessment and a performance record. The student’s consent is always required for the assessment of study modules based on competence criteria and for the recording of the study module in the Koski database. In such cases, the student’s performance must meet the assessment criteria for the course. At Tuusula College, all credit courses can also be taken on a non-credit basis.
