Enrolling in school
Here you will find information about enrolling in school and the application process, whether you are the guardian of a child starting basic education in Tuusula or are just moving to Tuusula.

Enrolment for the first class
Guardians whose children will begin compulsory education the following autumn will receive an information letter by post in December, addressed to the child based on population register data. The letter contains information about the start of compulsory education and instructions for electronic registration. The letter will also provide information on applying for afte
oon activities.
Children will be registered for basic education during the registration period specified in the letter informing parents of the start of compulsory education. At this stage, the school is not yet determined. The school place is determined by the headteacher’s decision on pupil admission.
If the child’s home municipality in the population register is a city/municipality other than Tuusula, please fill in the printable registration form at the bottom of the page. If electronic registration is not possible for some other reason, please fill in the printable registration form.
If you do not receive the information letter, you can enquire about its status by calling Tuusula Education and Culture Services on 040 314 3404.
Decisions regarding places for pupils in the first year of basic education (pupil admission decisions) will be communicated to guardians by letter during week 13.
Moving to Tuusula during basic education
During basic education, pupils moving to Tuusula can apply for a place at their local school by contacting the head teacher.

Guardians of schoolchildren
On 27 January 2026, we organised an information evening for the guardians of future first-year pupils. The event covered basic information about starting school.
Applying to a school other than your local school
If you are applying for a school place for a child living in Tuusula at a school other than their local school, you will find the application instructions in the pupil admission decision. This is a case of applying for a secondary school place.
If you are applying for a school place in Tuusula for a child who does not live in the municipality, this is also considered a secondary school place application. The application period for school places for children who do not live in the municipality is in April each year. Children from outside the municipality must first be registered for basic education in their own municipality or city. Applications for school places for children from outside the municipality can be made using the printable registration form at the bottom of the page.
Exceptional commencement of schooling
Permission to start school earlier or later than the prescribed age must be applied for well in advance of the start of the school year.
For further information, please call the special support coordinator on 040 314 3369.
