We organise extracurricular activities and clubs in Tuusula in two ways. Extracurricular activities based on the Finnish model supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture take place during the school day, either before or after school. In addition, schools have club activities supported by the National Board of Education.

We listen to the wishes of children and young people when planning activities. We use our own survey and a national school survey. Each school year, we look for partners to organise the desired activities.

Every school has hobbies or clubs. In addition, activities are available at the Tuusula Sports Centre, gyms and the Riihikallio HQ gaming centre. Each school has its own hobby calendar, where you can find up-to-date information about hobbies.

The Finnish model for leisure activities in Tuusula

The Finnish model of extracurricular activities covers the entire school year. In addition, skiing, orienteering and golf are available for shorter periods. Hobbies take place before or after school. Most hobbies are at school, but there are also activities at gyms, the Sports Centre, Pelitalo and the golf course. Tuusula offers a wide range of different hobbies.

School club activities

We organise school club activities supported by the National Board of Education at primary schools in Tuusula. School club activities are run by the school’s own staff or by clubs and companies. Clubs can last for the entire school year or for shorter periods.

The Tuusula parish also runs clubs as part of the OPH’s club activities. The parish clubs are open to everyone and include a short prayer at the beginning of each meeting.

Hobby network

The Tuusula hobby network meets three times a year to discuss the hobbies and leisure activities available to children and young people in Tuusula. Together, we consider what kind of free activities we can organise in Tuusula schools, taking into account the hobby preferences of children and young people.

The network includes the Tuusula parish, youth services, Rihan tuki ry, Tuusula 4H, the Tuusula municipal welfare coordinator, lea ing specialist, hobby and club activities coordinator, leisure services representative and school club leaders.

Our common goal is for every child and young person to find something they enjoy, whether it be sports, art or some other enjoyable leisure activity.

Tuusula is on its way to becoming a more child-friendly municipality. Children’s and young people’s hobbies and leisure activities are one of the municipality’s development priorities. We listen to the hobby wishes of children and young people and organise free hobby and club activities in schools based on these wishes. We involve children and young people in the planning process because their expertise is needed.
