Student welfare
Student welfare means promoting and maintaining students’ academic success, good mental and physical health, social well-being and activities that enhance these conditions at school. Student welfare should primarily consist of preventive, joint student welfare that supports the entire school. In addition, students also have a statutory right to individual student welfare. Student welfare work should be based on confidentiality and a respectful attitude towards the student and their guardian, as well as supporting their participation.
At Tusby träsk svenska skola, we have a student health group that works with general student health issues.
The group consists of a school psychologist, school counsellor, school health nurse, municipal family counsellor, special needs teacher and is led by the head teacher. Joint student welfare involves monitoring, evaluating and developing well-being in the school community and student groups. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the school environment is healthy, safe and free from obstacles. Common procedures shall be developed in cooperation with students, guardians and other authorities and actors that promote the well-being of children and young people.
All pupils and guardians, school staff and employees who provide pupil health services have the opportunity to submit matters for consideration by the group by contacting any member of the group.
School health care
School health care is a statutory and free preventive service within primary health care, which is usually provided in schools during the school day. The aim of school health care is to promote pupils’ growth, development, health and well-being. School health care also supports guardians in their child-rearing efforts.
The central goal of student welfare is preventive work and early support. Student welfare work is always carried out in cooperation with the student and their guardians.
The school health nurse is present at Tusby träsk svenska skola on the first Thursday of every month. The school health nurse’s name is Catharina Siiskonen and she can be reached by telephone on 050 4970007 or by email at catharina.siiskonen@keusote.fi.
Dental care for primary school pupils
All pupils in grades 1, 3 and 5 undergo an oral health check-up and a care plan is drawn up via a pop-up dental clinic at the school. After the pop-up check-up, an event is organised to promote health in small groups. The theme of the event is self-care of teeth.
In addition to this, pupils are called in for oral health checks according to their individual needs at the dental clinic.
If the child needs treatment, the home will be informed of the treatment period. Follow-up treatment is always carried out at the dental clinic. The guardians are responsible for transporting the child to the dental clinic.
Dental surgeon
The emergency dental service for urgent care (e.g. accidents, pain) operates by appointment and always requires you to contact the centralised appointment service for oral health care on 019 226 0700.
School meals and pupils’ special diets
The guardians of pupils are responsible for reporting any special dietary requirements. In such cases, please contact the school health nurse. She will pass on the information about the special diet to the municipal catering service (fi. Ruokapalvelut). Please note that the diet can be implemented two days after the information has reached the school kitchen.
Our school also serves a vegetarian option every day.
Familiarise yourself with Tusby municipality’s instructions on special diets (in Finnish).
Hobby and club activities
The schools organise hobby and club activities. Information about these is provided via Wilma and on the school notice board. The schools’ hobby calendar can also be found on the municipality’s website (in Finnish).
Hobby and club activities are organised in school and other venues, as well as online.
