Changes and termination of early childhood education and care

Municipal early childhood education places are terminated electronically via the eDaisy service. Verbal notification of termination is not sufficient. The place can be terminated as soon as the child’s last day of early childhood education is known. For example, moving to another municipality is a reason for cancelling a place in early childhood education. When a child transfers from one municipal early childhood education daycare centre to another, there is no need to terminate the old place. In addition to the termination notice, it is a good idea to inform the child’s daycare centre of the matter as early as possible.

If your early childhood education place is terminated for the summer and you need early childhood education again in August or September, for example, you must reapply for an early childhood education place. In this case, a place will be offered within four months of the early childhood education application. An early childhood education place can be offered from any unit, and there is no guarantee of getting a place in the unit that was terminated.        

(Childcare allowance does not affect the possibility of participating in open early childhood education.)

If you wish to transfer your child to another municipal daycare centre or from a service voucher daycare centre to a municipal daycare centre, you must submit a change notification/request for a change of childcare facility via eDaisy by the end of January. Changes to early childhood education placements are generally implemented in August. If you would like more information, please contact your service coordinator.

Priority is given to children who apply for a transfer on the basis of siblinghood, from family day care to day care and from shift care to day care. The transfer from family day care to day care takes place at the latest at the age of 4–5.

Changes to early childhood education places are made in accordance with the principle of local services. If a family has not been granted a place that corresponds to their first or second choice when applying for early childhood education, they are entitled to apply for a change of early childhood education place. If your request for a change of childcare place is not granted, you can submit a new application if you wish.

If there are changes in your child’s early childhood education needs, you must submit a change notification application in eDaisy and select the option to change the number of hours. Changes always take effect at the beginning of the month and cannot be made retroactively.
