Speeding, mobile phones and carelessness threaten road safety in Central Uusimaa
The biggest problems identified in the areau0026#x27;s traffic safety survey were speeding, inattentiveness and disregard for traffic rules. Based on the responses, unsafe pedestrian crossings, dangerous intersections, poor visibility and heavy traffic cause the most problems. Solutions will be sought in the traffic safety plan to be completed in the spring.
According to a survey commissioned by Järvenpää, Kerava, Tuusula and the Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, traffic safety is particularly affected by speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, inattentiveness, failure to observe pedestrian crossing rules and cycling in violation of the rules. Dangerous situations caused by electric scooters have also increased.
A total of 2,939 residents responded to the survey, leaving 7,466 map markings indicating traffic problem areas. Particularly unsafe pedestrian crossings, dangerous intersections, increased heavy traffic and roundabout lane arrangements were highlighted. Residents considered public transport, private cars and walking to be the safest modes of transport. Almost all respondents use seat belts in cars, more than half wear helmets when cycling, and more than 80% remember to wear reflectors in the dark.

A total of 1,856 comments were submitted in Järvenpää. The most feedback was received about the Sipoontie, Torpantie and Puistotie junction, as well as Kytötie and Kaskitie. The intersections of Vähänummentie and Vanha Valtatie, as well as the traffic light intersection of Pohjoisväylä and Sipoontie, were also identified as problematic.
Road safety is compromised by speeding, unsafe pedestrian crossings, poor visibility, misinterpretation of right of way rules at equal intersections, and failure to obey traffic signs and signals.
The Central Uusimaa traffic safety plan will be completed in the spring, and it will be used to find solutions to identified problems.
