The renovation of Agusta Park in Mattila was completed in early May. Before the renovation, residents’ views on the future of the park were surveyed. The survey highlighted the need to diversify the park. Based on these wishes, a climbing frame suitable for more demanding climbing, a nest swing and a trampoline were built in the park. An eye-catching feature of the park is a unique witch’s cottage-themed multi-purpose play structure for small children, decorated with fly agaric mushrooms at the top of the poles.

Residents wanted activities not only for children of different ages, but also for adults and the elderly. A small exercise area was built outside the playground, where people can do bodyweight training. In the survey, people wanted natural colours for the park. The colour scheme in the park is now natural. The play equipment features natural wood surfaces, which are accentuated by the colourful details of the park furniture.

The park also takes the environment into consideration. At the edge of the park, there is a long brushwood fence to support the area’s wildlife. Brushwood fences provide shelter and nesting sites for all kinds of insects, birds and other small animals. The material for the brushwood fence in Agusta Park was obtained from large rowan bushes that were removed from the park. The bushes were removed because the large rowan is an invasive species.

The opening ceremony will be held on 5 June.
