The Central Uusimaa Environmental Centre collected bathing water samples from 22 beaches on 16–17 July 2025. Five of the beaches are located in Tuusula (Kellokoski beach (Keravanjoki river) and Häklin, Jokela, Rusutjärvi and Urheilupuisto beaches). The samples were tested for Escherichia coli bacteria and intestinal enterococci. The microbiological quality of the bathing water was good at all but two beaches.

Bacterial levels were high at the Kellokoski swimming beach (Keravanjoki river). A swimming ban was reimposed at the Kellokoski swimming beach on 17 July 2025. New samples will be taken from the beach this week. The swimming ban will be lifted once bacterial levels have fallen.

The increase in bacterial concentrations is due to heavy thunderstorms, which have caused a large amount of stormwater to flow into rivers from the surrounding area. Wastewater treatment plants have also experienced overflows due to heavy rainfall. The Central Uusimaa Environmental Centre is investigating the situation together with other authorities.

Information on bathing water quality

The Central Uusimaa Environment Centre website has a table showing the results for bathing beaches, which is updated with the results of water samples taken during the bathing season. The sample results can also be found on the notice boards at the bathing beaches.

Blue-green algae sightings can be monitored on the Järvi-meriwiki website maintained by the Finnish Environment Institute, where anyone can also report their own blue-green algae sightings.
