Central Uusimaa Environmental Centre announces: Nominate recipients for the 2026 Environmental Award – we are looking for impressive climate actions in Central Uusimaa
What kind of climate actions have you or your community taken to benefit the environment? Do you know of anyone else who deserves an award for their actions? Nominate a recipient for the 2026 Environment Award by 1 March 2026.
The purpose of the award, now in its tenth year, is to highlight environmental actions in Central Uusimaa and encourage various parties to engage in exemplary and commendable environmental activities. This year’s theme is climate action.
Climate change can be slowed down by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing carbon sinks. Mitigating climate change is important because it reduces the challenges caused by extreme weather events such as storms and droughts. It also safeguards the livelihoods and natural resources of future generations. Strengthening carbon sinks helps to bind warming carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and safeguards biodiversity. As the climate changes, a wide range of adaptation measures will inevitably be needed to prepare for the changing conditions.
What actions have you or your community taken to protect the climate and reduce emissions, decrease consumption or develop climate-friendly solutions, for example? Have you organised events, campaigns or trips that promote a sustainable future? There are many different ways to work towards protecting the climate.
You can nominate either your own organisation or another organisation you are familiar with for the award. The winner will receive €1,000.
The recipient of the environmental award must be a company, association, community or private individual operating in Järvenpää, Kerava, Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi or Tuusula. The award is intended as recognition for activities that promote environmental protection, and the recipient also serves as an example to other people or those working in the field.
Competition entries must be submitted by 1 March 2026 by email to ymparistokeskus@tuusula.fi or by post to Keski-Uudenmaan ympäristökeskus, PL 60, 04301 Tuusula. Please write “Environmental Award 2026” in the subject line of the email or on the envelope.
The competition proposal should describe:
- Proposed award recipient
- What kind of climate actions has the applicant taken?
- When did the activity begin, and is it still ongoing?
- Applicant's contact details
- Candidate's contact details (if different from applicant).
The decision on the winner will be made by the Central Uusimaa Environmental Board.
