Environmental surveys are being carried out on the eastern shore of Lake Tuusula

The Municipality of Tuusula will commission environmental surveys on the eastern shore of Lake Tuusula in the spring and summer of 2026. The surveys will be carried out by the consultancy and design firm FCG.

An environmental survey is a report prepared by an expert on the natural values, plants, animals and habitats of an area.

The survey will begin in April and conclude in August. Work will take place on weekdays. Some of the work can be carried out from the canoe used by the survey team to travel across the lake. Some of the surveys will require access to the grounds of properties along the shore.

Surveys carried out on land areas along the shores will take place on weekdays between 8 am and 4 pm. Surveys conducted on the lake will also take place at night and in the early morning. Every effort will be made to carry out the nature surveys in such a way as to cause as little disruption as possible to property owners in the area. Property owners in the area will be informed separately before work begins.

The environmental surveys are being carried out as part of the preparations for amendments to the local plan for the area. The Tuusulanjärvi area is significant in terms of cultural history and the municipality’s strategy, and the surveys form part of the necessary groundwork for future plan amendments.

The amendments to the local plans for Rantatie and Kirkkotie will begin in early autumn 2026 with the public display of the participation and assessment plan (OAS). The planning work will examine the need for zoning amendments in the open areas of the Rantatie and Kirkkotie districts, particularly with regard to preserving the values of the cultural environment and infill development.

One key objective is to amend the planning regulations for the waterfront area, thereby enabling the cultural landscape of the area to be maintained and managed in such a way that valuable natural sites are preserved.
