Flexibility and accessibility at the heart of the design – community spaces for the future social and health centre in Hyrylä
The premises of Tuusula Municipality to be incorporated into the Hyrylä social and health services centre have been designed in close collaboration with the future users throughout the project. The most recent design workshop was held on 22 April.
The municipal premises will feature waiting areas for passengers using the bus terminal, as well as a more spacious meeting room for use by residents, associations and community groups. The meeting space is designed to be accessible and versatile: it can be used for everything from small meetings to larger public events. The space will be equipped with presentation technology, and a small kitchen will be built adjacent to it to facilitate catering.
The key themes that emerged during the workshop were the adaptability of the spaces, as well as the ease of use and mobility of the furniture. When selecting surface materials, the emphasis was on good acoustics and consideration of sensory sensitivities. Participants also paid attention to practical details: they wanted proper coffee cups in the kitchen, and recycling bins should be spacious enough.
The evening also included an initial discussion on the principles governing the booking and use of the premises. In addition to regular slots, there is a desire to make the premises available for one-off events, project presentations, and initiatives and information sessions aimed at promoting wellbeing.
About the project
The Tuusula Social and Health Services Centre is a joint project between the Central Uusimaa Welfare Region (Keusote) and Tuusula Municipality, aimed at building a modern welfare complex in the centre of Hyrylä. The social and health centre will comprise premises owned by Keusote and the municipality, as well as premises to be leased to HUS and private operators. A car park is also planned for the precinct. The new premises are due to be taken into use in 2028–2029.
