General information for guardians

Hospital education in Kalliomaa is part of the overall rehabilitation of children and young people receiving outpatient psychiatric care. The aim of primary school is to equip pupils with the skills they need to move on to secondary school, while the aim of secondary school is to support pupils in their further studies and independent living. Kalliomaa School is a safe place where pupils can and are allowed to work alongside their peers as lea ers and schoolchildren. The size of the pupil groups is considerably smaller than in mainstream education.

In recent years, we have also developed our activities to increasingly support pupils’ own schools. School attendance support periods and hospital school consultations are already well-established activities in the region.

Admission to Kalliomaa School is sought through consultation with a referral from specialised medical care. Parents can also request a consultation for their child, even if they do not yet have contact with specialised medical care.

Young people receiving specialised medical care also have the right to lea and attend school. Kalliomaa School is a hospital teaching unit maintained by the municipality of Tuusula. We offer all subjects taught in comprehensive school, including the most common optional subjects. School attendance is planned in cooperation with outpatient care and guardians, depending on the student’s condition and ability to cope.

Kalliomaa also oversees two small groups of upper secondary school pupils from Tuusula and Järvenpää, known as HoPe classes, which do not require contact with specialist healthcare services. HoPe teaching is organised in the centre of Järvenpää at Kirjastokatu 4.

Become a pupil at our school

Admission to our school is sought through consultation. A place at the school also requires a referral from specialist healthcare (child or adolescent psychiatry) as well as a pedagogical assessment carried out by the school and a decision on special support. You can find more information about applying for admission on the main page.

Selection for HoPe teaching is made through the Tuusula lea ing support specialist or the Järvenpää city growth and lea ing support manager.

Wilma ID for guardians

We use Wilma, provided by the municipality of Tuusula, for communication. Guardians can request Wilma credentials and the associated activation code from the school secretary.

School transport

School transport is organised through each pupil’s home municipality. In Kalliomaa, school transport is coordinated by Satu Aro, 040 314 4411.

School agreement

When a pupil is granted a place at Kalliomaa School, both the pupil and their guardian sign a school agreement, which is reviewed together. Long-term places at the hospital school and places in HoPe teaching are always granted for a fixed period (e.g. a term or academic year).

A place at the school in Kalliomaa requires the pupil to be motivated to attend school. The school agreement may be terminated during the period granted if the pupil has a high number of absences or if their specialised medical care ends. In this case, the pupil will retu to their own school.

In Kalliomaa’s HoPe teaching, contact with specialist healthcare is not required.

Reporting a pupil’s absence

Guardians can apply for temporary absence for pupils from the class teacher or head teacher in Wilma under “Applications and decisions”.

Any absence from school lasting more than three days must be requested from the head teacher.

Sudden absences due to illness must be reported in accordance with the teacher’s instructions.
