The 2025–2026 school year will begin in a pleasant atmosphere at schools in Tuusula. After the summer, it will be nice to see old and new friends, and the exchange of news between pupils and staff will foster interaction. Community spirit and the development of participation will continue to be key themes in school work.

Tuusula will continue with the Agenda 2030 programme, which aims to raise awareness of sustainable development, among other things, and Kultsua, which brings culture into the everyday lives of every pupil during the school year. In the coming school year, teachers will continue to be supported by materials produced as part of the New Literacy Skills project, which strengthens the ICT and media literacy skills of pupils and staff.

The update to the curriculum regarding learning support and additional teaching hours will come into effect at the start of the school year. The reform of student support is a major undertaking, which will be developed during the school year to meet national objectives and guidelines in accordance with the curriculum, so that every student has access to high-quality basic education.

Participatory budgeting, or osbu, is a form of democratic education and one of the methods used in Tuusula to strengthen participation. In this round, Tuusula is implementing osbu for children and young people. The osbu process has four stages: idea generation, further development, voting and implementation. All schoolchildren in Tuusula can participate in participatory budgeting and submit ideas that promote their living environment and well-being. The idea search lasts three weeks.

New schools open their doors

The development of the service network in Tuusula continues with the opening of the Rykmentinpuisto and Riihikallio schools. With the opening of the Rykmentinpuisto school, the Hyökkälä and Mikkola schools will close their doors and teaching will move to Rykmentinpuisto.

In particular, the start of activities in Rykmentinpuisto Park may cause congestion in the vicinity of the school during the first days of school. To avoid congestion in the drop-off zone, we encourage parents who drive their children to school to take this into account and walk their children to school whenever possible.

Preparations for the construction of the Lahela school are well underway, and planning is continuing. The building is expected to be completed in 2029.

Tuusula Upper Secondary School attracted many new students. Approximately 280 new students will begin their studies at the school’s three locations in Tuusula. The Monio facilities are also actively used by Tuusula College, Tuusula Art School and the Central Uusimaa Music School. Shared use has been further developed and, based on the experiences of the first few years, has been successful.

Parents’ responsibility for a safe journey to school

Parents are responsible for planning a safe route between home and school. The shortest route is not always the safest. It is often better to use underpasses rather than crossings, even if this makes the journey slightly longer.

Children often walk to school with their friends, who can have a major influence on their traffic behaviour. It is therefore a good idea to agree on safe travel and common rules for the journey to school.

We also hope that other road users will take into account the children and young people who will be out on the roads after the summer, so that together we can ensure a safe route to school for them.

Tuusula Art School and Opisto will commence operations in August
