Tua Holappa is Tuusula’s summer artist, whose work focuses on memories, spaces and their meanings. Her works explore everyday environments and the personal experiences associated with them. Over the summer, Holappa will be working alongside residents of Tuusula in workshops and interviews, which will form the basis for a series of scale models and an exhibition.

Take part in the summer artist’s workshops

Summer artist Tua Holappa is organising workshops across Tuusula, where participants will build a scale model of a space that is important to them. The workshops make use of model bases prepared by Holappa, as well as ready-made parts. Participants also add their own details to their models. All materials are provided at the workshop. No previous experience of building scale models is required.

In the workshops, Holappa guides participants in recalling their experiences and memories of the spaces, and helps them build scale models.

Workshop locations and times

The workshops last 3.5 hours.

The scale models completed in the workshops will be displayed at a joint exhibition to be held in July (venue to be confirmed). Participants may collect their work once the exhibition has ended.

Come and tell the summer artist about a place that’s important to you

As part of her artistic work, Holappa is interviewing three residents of Tuusula about places that hold special meaning for them. In the interviews, participants describe the place and their associated memories in as much detail as possible. You can apply to be interviewed using the online form below. Holappa will select the interviewees based on the responses received.

During the discussions, participants recall, for example, the furniture, the layout of the room, the position of the windows, as well as colours and details. The aim is to form as clear a picture of the room as possible, but perfect recall is not required. You do not need to prepare for the interview in advance.

Based on the interviews, Holappa is building three scale models. The interviews are being filmed and will form part of an exhibition opening in July, which will also showcase works created in the workshops. The filmed material will also be used as part of Holappa’s works.
