Rewarding athletes
Every year, the municipality of Tuusula honours successful athletes, teams, coaches and officials, as well as individuals who have made significant contributions to physical activity and sports.

We ask sports organisations to submit nominations for award-winning athletes, teams and organisations by the end of each year. Nominations can be made using the electronic form available on this website. Read the terms and conditions, categories and criteria for the awards below.
Terms and conditions of remuneration
The recipient of the award must be registered as a resident of the municipality of Tuusula at the time of the sporting achievement. However, their club may be based outside Tuusula; the decisive factor is the athlete’s place of residence. A person or organisation that has made a significant contribution to the sporting culture of Tuusula but is not registered in Tuusula may also be awarded the prize at the discretion of the organisers.

Reward criteria
Categories 1-5
We select candidates for categories 1–5 based on sporting success. In our selection, we consider the best achievement or result of the year. We compare achievements with each other and take into account many factors, such as the popularity of the sport, the number of participants, and its inte ational and national status.
Category 6
In category 6, we recognise long-term work and impact in promoting physical activity and sports in order to advance the local sports culture. We may also award a recognition prize for a sporting achievement that has been nationally significant and has promoted physical activity and sports in Tuusula through positive publicity. The prize cannot be awarded two years in a row unless there are particularly compelling reasons for doing so.
Awards ceremony
We organise an awards ceremony once a year in February and invite up to five nominees from each category to attend. The nominees and award winners are selected by a working group established by the Culture and Leisure Committee, which consists of local sports and exercise experts and influencers. The size of the scholarships is primarily determined by the available budget.
Awards
Categories 1–5
We will award the best in each category with a prize and a scholarship. Based on the working group’s proposal, nominees will receive either a material prize or a scholarship.
Category 6
We will award one recognition prize and one scholarship. Based on the working group’s proposal, the nominees will receive either a prize or a scholarship.
Other things to note;
- The primary responsibility for nominating successful athletes/teams during the calendar year lies with the clubs and the athletes' support teams.
- Nominations should preferably be submitted by the end of the calendar year in which the sporting achievements in question were accomplished. We will accept nominations for awards until 11 January 2026.
- Candidates may only be nominated in one category per year.
- The Culture and Leisure Committee will, where possible and upon invitation, also recognise successful athletes at the organisations' own award ceremonies. Flowers will be presented to successful athletes or teams by the chair or a member of the committee or the head of leisure services.
- The Culture and Leisure Committee may propose to the municipal executive board that the award be postponed if the achievement is particularly significant, such as an Olympic medal or similar.
