Our Nahkela School
On this page, we provide more information about Nahkela School and its practices.

Communication with the school
We use Wilma(switch to another service) for communication between home and school. The best way to contact teachers is through Wilma.
The email addresses of teaching staff are in the format etunimi.sukunimi@tuusula.fi.
Afte oon club
Nahkelan School does not have an after-school club, but pupils are transported to the after-school club at Vaunukankaan School if necessary. You can find more information about the Vaunukangas after-school club here. Information about
the after-school clubs in Tuusula and the application process can be found on the Tuusula municipal website.
Prevention and investigation of bullying
KiVa Koulu® is an anti-bullying action programme that is also used at Nahkelan School.

Supporting pupils
Pupils are helped with lea ing difficulties through various forms of support, which are determined according to the nature and extent of the difficulties. It is essential to identify lea ing difficulties at an early stage and to initiate support measures in order to prevent the negative effects of lea ing difficulties on the pupil’s development.
Support measures include, among other things
- differentiated teaching
- remedial teaching
- part-time special education and/or lea ing plan
- special education transfer decision and HOJKS, i.e. individual education plan.
School psychologist
The psychologist is an expert in the psychological growth and development, lea ing and mental health of children and young people at school. School psychology focuses on primary schools and special classes. The psychologist is a member of the school’s student welfare team. The school psychologist can help with:
- lea ing difficulties
- concentration difficulties
- emotional problems
- behavioural and adjustment problems.
The initiative to see a psychologist may come from the child, parents, teacher or other person working with the child. The psychologist will meet with the child with the parents’ consent.
The following methods are used to resolve school attendance issues
- guidance and advice for children and parents
- psychological examinations and assessments of children
- consultation for teachers
- discussions between parents and teachers.
Psychological services are confidential.
The school psychologist is available at Nahkela School by appointment.
School counsellor
The school counsellor is the school’s social worker. The basic task of school social work is to ensure that children of primary school age fulfil their compulsory education and to support the psychosocial well-being of children and young people at school. In addition to meeting with pupils and their networks, school social workers act as consultants in pupil welfare matters in school pupil welfare teams and school communities.
The curator is available at Nahkela School by appointment. You can also contact them by sending a message via Wilma.
Support person for schoolchildren
Family workers who act as support persons for schoolchildren support and supplement the student welfare work carried out with primary school children who are experiencing difficulties at school.
The work is carried out in cooperation with parents and other student welfare workers. The working method encourages children to take responsibility for striving towards and achieving their goals. The aim is to support schoolchildren/pupils in overcoming various school difficulties and to support families in different situations.
A support person can be contacted, for example, when a pupil is preoccupied with various conce
s at school or at home, does not want to go to school, often does not do their homework, has difficulties with their friends, etc. If necessary, the support person for schoolchildren can provide the pupil and their family with quick ‘first aid’. The situation is discussed with the family and others, and the pupil may be referred to other services if necessary. Work is done with the pupil both at school and at home, depending on the situation. As a rule,
pupils become clients of the support person through the school’s student welfare team or the head teacher. In urgent situations, a teacher or parent can contact the support person directly. All pupils receiving support from a support person are discussed by the school’s student welfare team to the extent that the child’s education requires it.
Student support person Sinikka Kynäslahti 040 314 4630, email address is etunimi.sukunimi@tuusula.fi.
Student welfare team
The group consists of the head teacher, teachers, school psychologist, special needs teacher, school social worker and school nurse. The student welfare group meets regularly and also acts as a crisis team when necessary (e.g. in cases of death or domestic violence).
School health care
School health care supports the growth and development of children and young people and aims to contribute to the development of values and attitudes that promote health. Health examinations are carried out annually for pupils, and health monitoring visits are carried out as necessary. If necessary, the school nurse provides acute care to pupils who fall ill during the school day and administers first aid in the event of accidents. However, actual medical care is not part of school health care but is provided at health centres.
The school nurse is at Nahkela School on the first and third Wednesday of each month. You can contact the school nurse via Wilma, email or telephone.
The school doctor visits Nahkela School twice during the school term. Parents will be notified of the exact dates. The school doctor conducts health checks for pupils in Years 1 and 5. Appointments with the school doctor are made by the school nurse.
Dental care for primary school pupils
All pupils in grades 1, 3 and 5 undergo an oral health examination and receive a treatment plan at the PopUp dental clinic at the school. After the PopUp examinations, pupils attend a health promotion session in small groups. The topic of the session is dental self-care.
In addition, pupils are invited to dental clinics for oral health examinations according to their individual needs.
If your child needs treatment, your home will be notified of the treatment time. Follow-up treatments are always carried out at the dental clinic. Parents are responsible for transporting their children to the dental clinic.
Emergency dental services
Emergency dental services for those requiring urgent treatment (e.g. accidents, pain) operate by appointment and always require contacting the centralised dental care appointment service on 019 226 0700.
School meals and special diets for pupils
The responsibility for notifying the school of special dietary requirements lies with the pupil’s parents. Please contact the school nurse, who will forward the information about special dietary requirements to the municipal food services. Please note that the diet can be implemented two days after the notification has been received by the school kitchen.
Our school also offers a vegetarian option every day. The weekly(switch to another service) school menus(switch to another service) can be found on the municipality’s website.
Read the Tuusula municipality’s guidelines on special diets.
Hobbies and club activities
Schools organise hobby and club activities. Information about these is provided via Wilma and on the school notice board. School hobby calendars can also be found on the municipality’s website.
Hobby and club activities are organised on the premises of schools and other operators, as well as online.
