The aim of the survey conducted in 2024 was to determine the satisfaction, strengths and weaknesses of Tuusula’s residents, as well as the factors that make the municipality attractive and its level of awareness. In addition, the development of the results from the previous year, 2023, was monitored. The results of the survey have mainly developed in a positive direction and will be utilised in the municipality’s strategy work during 2025 and in the development of services and operations.

Tuusula’s nature and safety, as well as the development of the municipality, are key issues for residents.

The survey aimed at residents was completely anonymous, and the target group consisted of residents of Tuusula (internal) and residents of the surrounding areas (external). The study is based on 977 responses (2023: 930). There were 477 internal respondents (2023: 430) and 500 external respondents (2023: 500). The survey was conducted using a data collection link for internal respondents and as a panel survey for external respondents.

When asked about their first impressions of Tuusula, both internal and external respondents most frequently mentioned Tuusula’s nature, Lake Tuusula and tranquillity. Internal respondents also perceive Tuusula as a cultural municipality.

– The 2024 responses emphasised Tuusula’s safety, tranquillity and proximity to nature, but also the development of the area and its family-friendliness. Our efforts to reform the service network and develop services are now evident to both current residents and respondents from other municipalities, says Mayor Kalle Ikkelä

The municipality’s strategy and development emphasise a resident-oriented approach, and the responses provide valuable information about the focus areas of the municipality’s future strategy as well as the experiences and well-being of Tuusula’s residents.
   The majority
of current residents (67%) are very satisfied or satisfied with Tuusula, with young people in particular liking their home municipality. Seventy per cent of residents see themselves living in Tuusula for the next three years as very likely or fairly likely. Pensioners are the most committed to living in Tuusula.

Residents are most satisfied with the opportunities for sports and leisure activities, education and training services, events and cultural offerings, and early childhood education services in Tuusula. Satisfaction has increased significantly in terms of centralised customer service (TuusInfo) and transport connections. Awareness of TuusInfo has also increased compared to the previous survey.

Of the respondents, 39% named public transport services as the most important area for development, and 9% named transport connections in relation to the same topic. There was also a desire for commercial services to be developed.

When assessing Tuusula’s successes in various areas, respondents felt that Tuusula had succeeded in terms of safety and tranquillity and in being a developing municipality. Family-friendliness, proximity to nature and attractiveness also feature strongly in the responses. When assessing their overall satisfaction with living in Tuusula on a scale of 1–5, the municipality received a score of 3.7. Approximately two-thirds

of respondents living elsewhere are at least somewhat familiar with Tuusula, with 26% of them being fairly or very familiar with it. Of the external respondents, 64% have visited Tuusula in the last two years. When asked about their impressions of Tuusula’s reputation and their interest in moving to Tuusula in the near future, 54% of respondents consider the place of residence to be neutral, while 42% consider it to be good or very good. Opinions on moving to Tuusula are divided; just over 30% of respondents could consider moving, while just over 40% do not consider this a likely option.

– If Tuusula is still unfamiliar to you, you can get a first impression by checking out our year-round events and cultural offerings, as well as our diverse sports and nature destinations. During your visits, you will also become familiar with our wide range of housing options. Come and get to know Tuusula, invites Ikkelä.

Company survey results show growth in Tuusula’s appeal

The company survey was conducted through telephone interviews and electronic data collection in October–December 2024. The results are based on 207 responses, of which 106 were from internal companies, i.e. companies operating in Tuusula, and 101 from external companies. Of the external respondents, 85% came from the capital region and the rest from Hyvinkää, Järvenpää and Kerava. In both groups, the majority of respondents were entrepreneurs, owners, managing directors or other senior management. Unlike the internal respondents, the lower limit for turnover among external respondents was set at €2 million.

Internal respondents felt that Tuusula’s attractive image had developed positively, with a rating of 3.6 (2023: 3.0) on a scale of 1–5. Similarly, cooperation with local business services was felt to have improved, with a rating of 3.3 (2023: 2.9). Companies’ own growth prospects are clearly brighter than in the previous survey, even though the general mood indicator for everyday life has declined slightly in both respondent groups. The municipality’s success in various factors and the differences in their significance were examined using gap analysis. Based on this, companies in Tuusula need more investment in transport connections, the supply of skilled labour and smooth permit services.

The municipality’s vitality is built on broader and more strategic regional development measures than just business services. For Tuusula, these include investing in the municipality’s visibility, increasing the supply of plots and premises, and finding solutions to criticism regarding the smooth running of services and transport links for businesses.

“Surveys provide us with important information about where we have succeeded in the opinion of different respondents. They give us the opportunity to hear the voices of companies that we don’t always hear in everyday encounters or at various events,” says Business Manager Toni Popovic

“I am delighted that companies feel we have succeeded in providing business services, but criticism is taken seriously and the results are reviewed within the municipality and with key stakeholders,” Popovic continues.
