Tuusula College will soon be offering theatre courses, and we will get a taste of two of them at Monio (Pataljoonatie 6, Tuusula) in March–April 2026. Arttu Kapulainen will lead a course on the basics of theatrical expression, and Johanna Kultala will lead a beginner’s course on puppet and object theatre for adults.

On Tuesday, 20 January, from 6 to 8.30 p.m., Monio Monttu will host a free public lecture entitled The Many Faces of Theatre. In their lecture, Kapulainen and Kultala will talk about their own theatre genres, careers and upcoming courses, and discuss the differences and similarities between traditional drama theatre and puppet theatre. Register for the lecture online via the link below or by telephone on 040 314 3415 or 040 314 3418!

Arttu Kapulainen (born 1981) has been acting since childhood, and his early experiences on stage and in front of the camera confirmed the direction that eventually led him to the Theatre Academy. He graduated with a Master’s degree in theatre arts in 2011. Since then, he has worked in a variety of roles in theatre, television and film, as well as teaching and directing.

He has honed his improvisational skills at the renowned The Groundlings theatre in Los Angeles (basic, intermediate).

Arttu has also taught at the Theatre Academy for ten years, working with Tiina Pirhonen as a teacher on the Living Scene course (2014–2024). As a teacher, Arttu values a safe, curious and experimental atmosphere in which students can grow as performers from their own starting points.

Johanna Kultala (born 1984) is a puppeteer and art educator. She graduated from the Turku Arts Academy’s puppetry programme in 2010 and has been a freelance artist ever since. As a performer, she has worked not only as a puppeteer but also as a mask actor and clown. Johanna graduated as a theatre teacher from the Theatre Academy in 2017 and as an art educator from Aalto University in 2024.

As an art educator, she has focused particularly on teaching puppetry. Johanna has previously taught at the Helsinki Adult Education Centre and the Helsinki Region Summer University. For Johanna, teaching is not only a form of performance but also a channel for exploring self-expression and artistic processes. As a teacher, she finds joy in sharing her expertise in the field of puppet theatre and in having the opportunity to learn new things together with her students.

Registration for theatre courses and lectures opened on 5 January 2026.
